The volcanic activity is increasing and it can possibly last for several weeks especially if the volcano re-erupts. This will not only affect medical tourists traveling for care but also any medical tourism conferences in the region. India, Thailand and Costa Rica are among many destinations Americans are traveling to receive healthcare. These countries may even promise the opportunity to save up to 90% of their medical costs if they seek care overseas. Individual patients aren’t the only ones taking advantage of these savings—employers and insurance companies, like Blue Cross Blue Shield, are offering incentives to those who participate in medical tourism. Click here for the complete story and to read about a patient who traveled to India was put up in a hospital “suite” that exceeded all of her expectations than what she would typically have in the U.S., with a computer, fridge, cable TV, sitting area and an extra bed for her travel companion.
